User info [Solved] ASF Disables "Save Image As..." Menu Option
Jul 28 2010, 4:28 am
I'm using ASF 1.0.1 with Firefox 3.6.8 on a WinXP restricted account (general user). After installing ASF, the "Save Image As..." right-click menu option is disabled (no save as dialog window appears). I disabled all the other Firefox extensions, but this didn't help.

I then created a new restricted WinXP account and installed ASF as the only Firefox extension. Under this configuration, ASF worked fine.

So, there's definitely a compatibility issue between ASF and how I have the first account configured. Are there any known compatibility issues with ASF/Firefox on a restricted WinXP account? Could it be a non-Firefox/ASF program running in the background that is causing the problem? TIA

I never used a restricted account, I didn't know it could affect the image saving in a browser :/

I don't think ASF can disable the menu item either.
ASF takes place after the user has selected the "save image as..." option, it can't decide if this menu is available or not.

If ASF effectively had an incidence over the saving function, I think it will also grey'ed the "save link as..." and "save as...", no ?

Could you try to disable the ASF right-click feature (in the option), on the firefox where this problem is happening?
If it really switch the "save image as..." while switching ASF right-click in the option, it will be problematic :(

As you said, creating a new account with ASF is working fine.
I don't think ASF is restricting it, but maybe it created a conflict with another add-on.
Could you list the other saving add-on you have installed (enabled or not) ?

ASF has been successfully tested with DownthemAll, DownloadSort, MAF, and Abduction!.

You can ignore this message and read the next one which tells about ASF now working correctly.

I disabled all the extensions, and the "Save As..." worked as normal, displaying the "Save Image" dialog.

With all the extensions disabled, I enabled ASF. The "Save As..." appeared as normal (not grey'ed out) on the context menu, but after selecting "Save As..." the context menu disappeared and the "Save Image" dialog did not appear.

With ASF enabled, I went to the ASF option settings. I unchecked "Use the filters on the menus," and the regular (non-ASF) "Save As..." function began working again.

Extra note: With all the extensions enabled, one save action that did work with ASF fully enabled was saving via "Save Image in Folder..." I don't know if that tells you anything.

Here is a list of the extensions I have installed:

AdblockPlus {1.2.1}
AutomaticSaveFolder {1.0.1}
DownThemAllAntiContainer {0.8.4}
DownThemAll {1.1.10}
DownloadHelper {4.8}
DownloadStatusbar {0.9.7}
FastDial {2.23b2}
FireGestures {1.5.7}
Flashblock {1.5.13}
ImageZoom {0.4.4}
MenuEditor {1.2.6}
NoScript {2.0}
NukeAnythingEnhanced {1.0.2}
PageInfoButton {}
SaveImageinFolder {1.3.1}
Text2Link {1.9.6}
TinEyeReverseImageSearch {1.0}
ToolbarButtons {}
UndoClosedTabsButton {3.6.2}
WOT {20100503}

I only use this account when browsing the web for a little extra security. It would be simple enough for me to create a new account to get ASF to work, so I wouldn't spend a lot of time troubleshooting this.

Thanks for your help.

Well, I don't know what I did, but ASF is now working properly. I played around uninstalling/installing extensions, so I must have reset something that got out-of-whack. However, I couldn't tell you if this was what fixed it, and if so, what extension was causing the problem.

Thanks for the prompt reply and sorry for the trouble.

Don't worry, thanks for reporting it's working again.

I'm happy it's working for you :)
And happy it wasn't ASF too ^^ but I will check more if ASF has some conflict with another add-ons you listed.
one which get me suspicious is "SaveImageInFolder", it may shortcut ASF and create a bad output path which result in Firefox preventing a save until you do a regular save that overwrite that bad path ? (it's just a supposition, I'll have to take a look).

I'll mark this topic as fixed.
